Affordable alternative to the door rack!

Posted by Casey Lynch, PLS on Mar 2nd 2025

This is a great alternative to spending nearly a $1000 on a door rack. My current field truck is a 2019 Ram 1500. Here are my observations and solutions. These are not a big deal and the value of the caddie is well worth it! The tailgate does make contact with the top of the mount. This means I have to plan on getting everything out before installing the caddie in the hitch and if I have to open the tailgate, I hold it up about 2 inches. The caddie rocks in the hitch. The rocking while driving does not affect the rod. It will stay in place as is, but I’m solving most of that by adding a tight second bungee around the rack, attached to the safety chain holes on my hitch. I might drill a hole on one side and add a small strap, still very solvable! A carbon fiber rod will get scratched up going in and out of the pole holder, again not a big deal when saving $500-$800!! The caddie is a great alternative and is well made, the welds are nice and layered correctly. Save your money and put the difference in your pocket!
